The Hairy-tailed Bat is currently listed as a vulnerable species (2003), and this particular species of bat is also endemic to Brazil. The Hairy-tailed Bat was first reported in 1994 by Fazzolari and Corrca. They are from the Vespertilioninae family of bats, belonging to the genus Lasiurus. Bats of this genus are Vespertolimid Bats. Due to this particular bat species recent discovery, very little research has been taken place. The Hairy-tailed Bat is currently (2004) thought to inhabit only the Island of Cardoso.
