Emilia's Gracile Mouse Opossum (Gracilinanus emiliae)

No image of the Emilia's Gracile Mouse Opossum available.

The Emilia's Gracile Mouse Opossum was discovered by Thomas in 1909. It inhabits Brazil and is also endemic to this country. It is currently (2003) listed as a vulnerable species.

Very few reportings of this particular opossum species have been uncovered. It is from the Gracilinanus family of Opossum. Opossums belonging to this family are Murine or Mouse Opossums. They are the smallest opossums, and mainly aboreal forest dwellers. However some from this species are known to inhabit the grasslands of Argentina or in the Andes. Some from this species range into North Mexico.

They are also known simply as the Gracile Mouse Opossum. This is a general name to describe the whole species of Gracile Mouse Opossums.

It is rare to find this particular species of Opossum, and thus very little research has been carried out.
