The Candango Mouse is a native Brazilian mammal. It is currently (2003) listed as a vulnerable species. It was rated at endangered in 1994, but the risk has since been lowered. It was first reported by Moojen in 1965. This particular species is endemic to Brazil. It is from the Juscelinomys genus, which translates to Juscelin's Mice. The other mouse in this genus is the Molelike Mouse (Juscelinomys vulpinus) which also inhabits Brazil. The Candango mice feed on vegetable matter and insects. It is also known as the Cerrado Mouse or the Brasilia Burrowing Mouse. There has been very little research conducted into the life of this particular species of mouse. One reason for this is they are very sparse. It is rare to find a specimen of this mouse. Further Information on the Candango Mouse: E-mail to add your Candango Mouse related website. |
